The Human Ego and William Shatner Pants

I don't usually do light blog post entries, but I thought this was worth it.

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan there is a wonderful scene where Mr. Saavik, a female bridge officer played by Kirstie Alley, is questioning Admiral Kirk's judgment, and Mr. Spock replies "I think we can guarantee she'll follow us. Mr. Saavik, remind me to explain to you the concept of human ego." At exactly that point where Spock finishes his statement, the shot changes from focusing on Spock to focusing on Admiral Kirk. I've always thought that this had to be an intentional but subtle dig at William Shatner for being such as jerk to the rest of the cast. As the late and great James Doohan once said, "I like Captain Kirk, but I sure don't like Bill." Bill Shatner that is.

I always wanted to take that Wrath of Khan clip and post it on Youtube as "The Concept of the Human Ego". But alas, I don't have a copy of the film on hand and don't know how to cut a film clip. I'm sure I could resolve that problem easily if I had the time, but I've been delaying it so long I just said "heck to it, I'll do the next best thing. I'll create a demotivational poster version." I hope you enjoyed that poster and this other one I've made:

PS: Captain Sulu is a much better captain than Kirk.
